Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity brothers will race in high heels as part of Mercer County AWARE fundraiser

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Thiel College is conducting its annual Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser for Mercer County AWARE, a philanthropic campaign devoted to eliminating domestic and sexual violence.

Members of the fraternity will be wearing high heels and collecting money at the intersection of routes 18 and 58 near the David Johnson Memorial Chapel from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday. The event culminates with a race scheduled for noon Saturday, April 11 at the Stamm Track & Field Complex.

The event supports Mercer County AWARE, whose primary mission is to aid victims of domestic and sexual violence in Mercer County, Pa. The group is dedicated to educating, supporting, and advocating for all Mercer County residents who are suffering from domestic and sexual violence.

The fraternity is also selling T-shirts to support AWARE. Arrangements to purchase a shirt can be made by stopping by the collection site.

In a statement, the fraternity said, “We will be doing this by wearing high heels to signify ‘walking a mile’ in a domestic violence victim’s life. Here at Penn Nu, we are taught to be leaders in our communities; that’s why the brothers of Penn Nu will be strapping into our high heels and asking for your help to give those close in our community the support and strength they need to get through the pain they are going through. We are asking Mercer County, Thiel College, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon communities to come show your support.”
