GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at Thiel College is conducting their annual Walk-A-Mile in Her Shoes fundraiser for Mercer County, a philanthropic campaign devoted to eliminating domestic and sexual violence.
Members of the fraternity will be wearing high heels and collecting money at the intersection of routes 18 and 58 near the David Johnson Memorial Chapel from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. into the week of April 22 due to Easter break (no classes are being held on April 18 and 21), ongoing construction and inclement weather.
The event supports Mercer County AWARE, whose primary mission is to aid victims of domestic and sexual violence in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. The group is dedicated to educating, supporting, and advocating for all Mercer County residents who are suffering from domestic and sexual violence.
In a statement, the fraternity said, “We will be doing this by wearing high heels to signify ‘walking a mile’ in a domestic violence victim’s life. Here at Penn Nu, we are taught to be leaders in our communities; that’s why the brothers of Penn Nu will be strapping into our high heels and asking for your help to give those close in our community the support and strength they need to get through the pain they are going through. We are asking Mercer County, Thiel College, and the Sigma Phi Epsilon communities to come show your support.”
