GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma recently presented a check for $4,101 to the Reynolds VFW following their 31st annual See-Saw-A-Thon.

Kappa Sigma raised $4,101 over multiple events, including See-Saw-A-Thon, the stair climb for 9/11, and the Veterans Day Tribute Workout. The fraternity presented the Reynolds Veteran of Foriegn Wars Post 7599 with a check on Friday, Nov. 21, which will be used to support regional veterans.

Thiel College Assistant Director of IT Operations and Veterans Liasion Mike Mason, who also serves as Quartermaster for the Reynolds VFW, shared his gratitude.

“Kappa Sigma may not fully grasp just how far their generosity reaches. Their support has motivated so many people, made a real difference in the lives of veterans, and transformed how others view what a fraternity can stand for,” Mason said. “They should truly feel proud, and know that the Reynolds VFW is honored to be considered part of their extended family.”

During the past two years, Kappa Sigma has raised more than $20,000 to support local veterans.

For the past three decades, the Xi Epsilon chapter of Kappa Sigma has raised thousands of dollars by collecting donations from passing motorists while its members ride a 25-foot-long metal see-saw for 72 consecutive hours. In the past money raised would be donated to Kappa Sigma’s national organization, which created the Military Heroes Campaign in 2007. The campaign honors and aids thousands of military veterans and their families in communities throughout the U.S. and Canada. Since its inception, the campaign has donated more than $1 million to non-profit organizations that advocate on behalf of servicemen and women and those wounded in combat. In 2023, the funds collected by Kappa Sigma were earmarked for local veterans with the Reynolds VFW coordinating the effort to distribute the funds locally.

Thiel College’s support for military and veteran students extend beyond these fundraising efforts. The College strives to be a leader in military-friendly education, earning a 2024-2025 Gold Military Friendly® Award, which placed it among the top 10 percent of private liberal arts colleges nationwide in serving military-affiliated students and supporting their success. In addition, Thiel was recognized for its commitment to military families and continues to develop programs and services to help both veterans and their dependents thrive academically and personally.
