GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Seneca Valley High School senior Sarahy Lopez, of Cranberry, Pa., was awarded an academic scholarship worth $130,560 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation on Monday, Dec. 14 at the Thiel College Office of Admission.
Lopez is one of five winners for 2020 from among a field of 140 applicants. She joins Seneca Valley High School classmate Anna Paul and Hannah Stoughton, a senior from Apollo-Ridge High School (Apollo, Pa.). Farrell High School classmates Brice Butler, of Farrell, Pa., and Gary Satterwhite III, of Farrell, Pa., were the final two winners announced on Dec. 15.
She plans to major in Thiel College’s new five-year physician assistant program. Students in the program graduate with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in five years.
“This is a life-changing opportunity. It left my mom and me speechless,” Lopez said. “I just want to thank Thiel College for allowing me to continue my educational journey”
Lopez is a member of the student council and Medical Careers Club at Seneca Valley.
“Sarahy was a fantastic candidate,” Thiel College Vice President for Enrollment Management Ashley Josay Zullo said. “All the faculty members who interviewed her were impressed.”
