General McLane senior Allison Walsh one of five Thiel College full scholarship winners

GREENVILLE, Pa.—General McLane High School senior Allison Walsh, of Edinboro, Pa., was awarded an academic scholarship worth $133,000 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation at the school on Dec. 18.

Walsh was one of five winners for 2019. The scholarship was granted based on her academic and civic accomplishments and her performance during a scholarship competition at Thiel College that was attended by 150 students and. Walsh is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars and participates in theater and band. She is also involved with her church’s youth ministries and plans to study business at Thiel College.

“All of our applicants stood out in different ways but Allie’s poise, academics and community service elevated her above the field,” Vice President of Enrollment Management Ashley Josay Zullo said. “We are confident she will share her enthusiasm for contributing with the entire community during her college career and beyond.”

Walsh said the scholarship is “life-changing.” She said it will be “the most amazing gift to graduate without any debt.”

She is the daughter of Derek and Kate Walsh, of Edinboro, Pa.

This is the third year for the scholarship competition and presentation ceremony.
