GREENVILLE, Pa.—Cranberry High School senior Abigail Joseph, of Seneca, Pa., was awarded an academic scholarship worth $133,000 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation at the school on Dec. 19.
Joseph was one of five winners for 2019. The scholarship was granted based on her academic and civic accomplishments and her performance during a scholarship competition at Thiel College that was attended by 150 students. Joseph is a district band qualifier and is an honor roll student. She volunteered at the Pennsylvania State Police’s Sunny Day Camp for special needs children and adults and plans to study business, sociology and psychology at Thiel College.
“I get to study what I love at my first choice school,” Joseph said. “I honestly can’t wait for fall 2020, now, more than ever.”
The announcement was made at the school with family, friends and school and Thiel College representatives.
“Abby is an outstanding young lady, and this scholarship is a well-deserved,” Cranberry school counselor Andrew Godinich said. “We at Cranberry are so proud of her and wish her the best at Thiel next year.”
She is the daughter of Sherrie and Paul Joseph, of Seneca, Pa.
“What a pleasure it was to be able to present this wonderful accomplishment to Abby,” Director of Admissions Sonya Lapikas said. “This is something that just needs to be celebrated.”
This is the third year for the scholarship competition and presentation ceremony.
