About the program

The Thiel College music minor consists of a balance between classes in history, theory and performance. Students will be acquainted with the basic elements of music through study and performance of musical literature of various historical periods.

Students participating in the Performing Arts will be prepared for graduate school or employment in a wide range of fields because of Thiel's emphasis on the liberal arts.

Minor Features

  1. Demonstrate a basic knowledge of the elements of music.
  2. Analyze harmonic progressions in simple four- part harmony.
  3. Accompany songs with simple chord progressions on the piano.
  4. Compose a four-part church hymn.
  5. Conduct singers or instrumentalists in a rehearsal setting.
  6. Describe the historical development of music— medieval to present.
  7. Demonstrate proficiency in individual skills needed for musical performance through participation in a musical ensemble.
