GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College’s student-run WXTC radio station, achieved a historic milestone during its recent 24-hour broadcast, raising a record-breaking $1,270 for the Lupus Foundation of America.
The 24-hour broadcast was held from April 4-5, 2025, where it surpasses its initial $400 goal, which was incrementally increased to $600, $750, $1,000, and ultimately $1,250 as donations continued to pour in.
This achievement marks the most successful campaign in WXTC’s history, reflecting the unwavering dedication of its student broadcasters and the generosity of the Thiel College community.
“As a senior, I am beyond proud of the hard work everyone put in, and the results highlighted that work,” Christina Newman ’25 said.
WXTC Radio has been broadcasting the Lupus fundraiser for the past seven semesters, but this event quickly became one of its most memorable.
“It was worth the lack of sleep to stay up to raise money,” said Will Stines ‘25, one of the many students who committed hours of on-air time to help reach the station’s growing donation goals.
Matthew Humphrey, WXTC’s Academic Advisor and Chair of the Department of Communications Media praised the group’s efforts.
“I am proud of the hard work all the students of WXTC have done to support the Lupus Foundation of America,” Humphrey said. “I still can’t believe this is not only the most successful 24-hour broadcast we’ve ever had, but it's nearly double that of the previous highest. And thank you to everyone who donated!"
WXTC radio’s staff and students extend their gratitude to all donors and listeners who contributed and furthered the station’s commitment to community engagement and philanthropy.
