GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College junior Jason Jewett ’25 won an Intercollegiate Broadcasting System award recently during IBS’s 83rd annual conference in New York City at the Sheraton Times.

Jewett, a media and journalism major from Kinsman, Ohio, won for Best Underwriting Spot.

“First and foremost, I want to congratulate all the other nominees. It is a huge honor to be nominated for your great work, just to be recognized as a nominee is awesome because there are so many schools with far more renowned programs, from not only around the nation, but the world. The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System conferences were amazing. I learned a lot from them, and there is so much I want to accomplish with WXTC Radio,” Jewett said. “Winning an award was surreal. Truth be told I don’t remember the time leading up to the announcement. I was so focused on hearing the words ‘Thiel College WXTC Radio’ that when I heard them, I jumped out of my seat and speed-walked to receive the award in a daze of emotion. I shook the IBS representative's hand, grabbed the trophy and walked back to my seat beaming. When I sat down, every emotion flowed over me. I thank God for getting such a great opportunity. I would like to thank Good Intentions Market and Cafe for sponsoring WXTC 88.1 FM Greenville, PA. If it wasn't for them, we wouldn't have the sponsor spot that I made that won.”

Together Thiel College had five nominations. Jewett was nominated for Best Documentary, Best Station ID and Best Underwriting Spot. Jewett and Kinsey Lowers ’24 were nominated together for Best Show Promo. Christina Newman ’25 and Jacob Reeher ’26 were nominated for Best Radio Drama.

About the nominees:

  • Newman is a media and journalism major from Corry, Pa. She is a 2021 graduate of Corry High School.
  • Reeher is a communication major from Greenville, Pa. He is a 2021 graduate of Reynolds High School.
  • Jewett is a 2021 graduate of Pymatuning Valley High School.
