GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Four students and a faculty member of the Thiel College Department of Media, Communication & Public Relations earned eight award nominations for the 82nd annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards, which will be given virtually at the yearly conference on Saturday, March 5.
The IBS conference is typically held in the Hotel Pennsylvania in New York City each spring, but the annual event is being held virtually this year, as it was last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This will be the eighth year that TCTV and WXTC students have participated.
TCTV was nominated for three awards
WXTC was nominated for four student awards and a faculty award.
Thiel College is competing against schools as diverse as small private schools to large public institutions, including The University of Kansas, Hofstra University, Temple University, Rutgers University and the University of Akron.
“The students really hit it out of the park this year considering we received eight nominations in total for the whole department,” said Thiel College Media Production Coordinator Jacob Clark ’20. “Not only is it a huge accomplishment for these students to even be nominated, but taking part in the conference offers them the chance to speak with leaders in the industry and learn valuable information regarding this path as a future career. The knowledge that can be gained from an event like this is incredibly beneficial to those students preparing to start their career in broadcasting.”
WXTC-FM and TCTV are both housed in the $6.8 million James Pedas Communication Center, a collaborative learning community where students engage in film, TV, radio, news production, and other multimedia-rich experiences that prepare them for today’s information society. The building’s features include sophisticated labs and studios, dynamic classrooms and learning spaces, the Office of Admission, and a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design building certification.
