Thiel College Religion Department Chair selected as NRHC Honors Professional of the Year

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Assistant Professor of Religion and Department Chair George Branch-Trevathan, Ph. D. was awarded the Northeast Regional Honors Conference 2021 Honors Professional of the Year Award in the Faculty Category.

To qualify for this recognition, the honors professional must continually demonstrate a dedication to honors education at his/her honors program/college. Winners are passionate about honors, an advocate for students and embody the values of his/her honors program/college.

“Dr. Branch-Trevathan has been essential to defining the character and values of the Dietrich Honors Institute at Thiel College,” said Dietrich Honors Institute Director and Associate Professor of History Sheila Nowinski, Ph.D. “His thoughtful pedagogy and caring attitude are crucial to creating an honors community among our first-year students. His leadership in the honors thesis program has helped me immensely as we revise our standards and encourage our seniors to reach new heights.”

The honors professional also works to engage honors ideals outside their home institutions through book or article publications, participation in intercollegiate projects, conference attendance and service to their communities.

Branch-Trevathan has been a professor at Thiel for 10 years and has taught honors courses for nearly his entire tenure.

About Thiel College

Thiel College is an independent college founded in the Lutheran tradition. Located in Greenville, Pa., the College offers 60 majors and minors, 24 varsity sports, and an 11:1 student-faculty ratio. The College is also home to a Master of Science in speech-language pathology, a Leadership Master of Business Administration and a Management Master of Business Administration. Both master’s degree programs offer innovative and accelerated five-year paths which allow students to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years.
