Thiel College celebrates the season with concerts and 71st annual Christmas festival

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College invites the community to embrace the holiday spirit through three holiday-themed events, which includes the 71st Annual Christmas Festival.

The festivities kick off with the Thiel Brass Band Christmas Spectacular at 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 3 in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center. This concert, free and open to the public, will feature performances by the Thiel Brass Band, including student musicians:

  • Trumpet: Katherine Cooper ’28 (Greenville, Pa.), Jacob Hoffman ’28 (Knox, Pa.);
  • French Horn: Colton Scales ’28 (Greenville, Pa.);
  • Tuba: Edward Ague ’26 (Austintown, Ohio), Samantha Gembe ’25 (Waynesboro, Pa.), Rachael Smith ’26 (Wexford, Pa.);
  • Trombone: Kayden Moroney ’28 (Sharon, Pa.); and
  • Euphonium: Riley Smith ’26 (Edinburg, Pa.).

Guests are welcome to attend a special alumni and friends Reception from 6–7 p.m. before the concert.

Thiel College will host the 71st Annual Christmas Festival at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 5 in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel. A longstanding tradition, the Christmas Festival has been a cherished part of Thiel College and Mercer County since the founding of the Thiel Choir in 1953 by Marlowe Johnson H’02. Over the years, the Thiel Choir has shared its extraordinary musical talents across the United States, Canada, and on nine European tours. Thiel College Choir is planning a European tour to Austria and Switzerland in 2026.

The celebrations continue with the Thiel Jazz Band Christmas Concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, December 7 in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center. Also free and open to the public, this concert will highlight the exceptional talents of the Thiel Jazz Band, featuring:

  • Alto Saxophone: Charlee May ’26 (Rochester, Pa.);
  • Tenor Saxophone: Nova Firster ’25 (Greenville, Pa.), Madison Rodgers ’28 (Lancaster, Pa.);
  • Trombone: Kayden Moroney ’28 (Sharon, Pa.), Riley Smith ’26 (Edinburg, Pa.), Rowan Thomas ’27 (Jamestown, Pa.);
  • Piano: Jacob Hoffman ’28 (Knox, Pa.);
  • Guitar: Jason Jewett ’25 (Kinsman, Ohio);
  • Bass Guitar: Jemaria Lynch ’28 (Clune, Pa.); and
  • Percussion: Michael King ’26 (Geneva, Ohio).
