GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announces Jasmine Phillips ’23, of Hubbard, Ohio, and Brandon Forrest ’23, of Cranberry, Pa., as Student of the Month honorees for December.

The Student of the Month honor is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College with only six students each semester earning the honor.

Forrest is majoring in mathematics with a secondary education certification. Forrest is a member of both the mathematics honors society, Kappa Mu Epsilon, and the education honors society, Kappa Delta Pi. While at Thiel, he has also assisted at the Good Shepherd Food Pantry.

Forrest graduated from Cranberry Area Jr./Sr. High School in 2019. Following graduation, he hopes to obtain a teaching job. He is the son of Randy and Sue Forrest and the older brother of Preston Forrest, all of Cranberry, Pa.

“I am thankful for my time at Thiel,” Forrest said. “All my professors have been more than willing to do whatever they can to help me be successful.”

Forrest extends his gratitude to all the professors in the mathematics and education departments, and baseball coach Joseph Schaly for the impact they have had on him throughout his college career at Thiel.

Phillips is pursuing majors in counseling and cognitive developmental psychology. Phillips has held many positions during her time at Thiel, including President of Active Minds, Joining Generations liaison, and Thiel Student Support Network member. She traveled internationally as a Vira I. Heinz Scholarship winner. She has also been a resident leader, Thiel Team member, international conversation leader, the secretary of the Pen Pal Club, and a member of the Environmental Club.

Phillips is a 2019 graduate of Western Reserve High School. After graduating, she hopes to attend graduate school to pursue a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling and get her counseling licensure in Ohio. She is the daughter of Barb Ryser and John Phillips, of Hubbard, Ohio.

“At Thiel, I have gotten so many opportunities that I don’t think I would have gotten anywhere else,” Phillips said. “I have made amazing connections with professors and other staff, and I love getting to know my peers through the many events and organizations that I get involved in.”
