Brooks, Gilbert named Thiel College Student of the Month honorees for April

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announces Payton Brooks ’22, of Saegertown, Pa., and James Gilbert ’22, of Pearl River, N.Y., as the Student of the Month honorees for April.

The Student of the Month honor is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College with only six students each semester earning the honor.

Brooks is pursuing majors in political science and public policy and minors in English and international studies. She is the Media Board Manager for the Thiel College Student Government Association and is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha where she has worked to raise money and awareness for breast cancer education and research. During her time in this organization, Brooks has served as the historian chair; the risk chair; and the diversity, equity and inclusion chair. Brooks is a member of the Dietrich Honors Institute, the English honors society Sigma Tau Delta and the political science honors society Pi Sigma Alpha.

Brooks is a 2018 graduate of Saegertown Junior-Senior High School. Following graduation, she plans to attend graduate school to pursue a degree in the area of public administration. She is the daughter of Jeff Brooks and Lori Connick, both of Saegertown, Pa.

“I have made the most of my time at this school and have always looked on the bright side of every situation,” Brooks said.

Gilbert is pursuing majors in biochemistry and psychology as well as minors in medical biology and chemistry. He is a member of the Tri-Beta biology honors society, the Psi-Chi psychology honors society, the Order of Omega Greek honors society, the Dietrich Honors Institute, and the Phi Theta Phi fraternity where he served as the Interfraternity Council and academic chairman. He has worked for the Thiel Learning Commons as a peer tutor and as a supplemental instructor for organic chemistry, and he was also a lab assistant for the Chemistry Department.

Gilbert is a 2018 graduate of Pearl River High School. Following graduation, he plans on attending medical school at the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Gilbert is the son of Suzanne and James Gilbert of Pearl River, N.Y.
