GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announces Jacob Frantz ’23, of Greenville, Pa., and Janelle Mudry ’23, of Pittsburgh, Pa., as Student of the Month honorees for October.

The Student of the Month honor is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College with only six students each semester earning the honor.

Frantz is pursuing majors in computer science and information systems. He has been a student worker at the IT Solution Center, and he will be performing a full-time internship during the Spring 2023 semester at Thiel. After graduating, he intends to continue to pursue his education at Thiel in the MBA program.

He is the son of Thiel College Emerita Professor of Chemistry Kathryn Frantz, Ph.D. and Raymond Frantz, of Greenville, Pa. and a 2019 Greenville Junior/Senior High School graduate.

“With my mother working at Thiel for 23 years, it was only natural that Thiel became like a second home for me,” Frantz said. “Living the ‘Thiel life’ before even becoming a student, and finally attending Thiel has been amazing, from the community to the classes.”

Frantz would like to recognize Assistant Director of IT Operations and Veterans Liaison, Mike Mason, and the other members of the Information Technology Solution Center for accepting him as a student worker and giving him both IT and interpersonal experience.

“Before I started working here, I was the quiet kid who barely spoke with anyone,” Frantz said. “I am by no means an extrovert now, but I have finally found my confidence and passion, and I can look confidently towards what the future may bring.”

Mudry is an English major seeking her secondary education certificate. During her time at Thiel, Mudry has been a member of Women Inspiring the Next Generation, which is now known as Students Inspiring the Next Generation, and she has raised money for Mercer AWARE since her first year at Thiel. Following graduation, she plans to look for a teaching position in the Pittsburgh area and pursue an online master’s degree while teaching.

She is the daughter of Diane and Paul Mudry, both of Pittsburgh, Pa. and a 2019 graduate of Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy.

“I am grateful for all of the opportunities, both academically and within the Thiel community, that have helped to develop me as a professional and as a leader,” Mudry said.

Mudry acknowledges Professor of English Mary Theresa Hall, Ph.D. for all that she has done to help improve her writing and think about literature in different and more complex ways.

“I loved taking her classes and having her as my advisor in the English department,” Mudry said.
