New Employee Orientation

Congratulations and welcome to Thiel College! We are excited to get to know you and the unique talents you bring to our campus. You are joining a group of very talented faculty and staff!

Our goal is to help you learn about the Thiel College campus and policies in an easy to navigate format. Below are instructions to assist you as you begin the new employee orientation program:

  • Complete this program within your first week.
  • Make note of any questions you have during the process. You will have a question and answer session with a Human Resources (HR) staff member following completion of this program.
  • Complete the In2Vate training module (linked below).
  • At the end of this program, you will e-sign an acknowledgment of completion. HR and your supervisor will be notified of your successful completion.

The HR department is committed to serving faculty and staff in the areas of policy establishment and administration, staffing/employment processes, and employee benefit issues.

Getting to Know Thiel College

Thiel College is an independent college founded in the Lutheran tradition. Located in Greenville, Pa., the College offers 60 majors and minors, 24 varsity sports, and an 11:1 student-faculty ratio. The College is also home to a Bachelor of Science in Nursing program and graduate programs in, Business Administration, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Communication and Leadership, Physician Assistant and Speech-Language Pathology. All of Thiel College’s master’s degree programs offer innovative and accelerated five-year paths which allow students to earn a bachelor’s and master’s degree in five years. A dedicated faculty paired with dynamic research and internship opportunities produce outstanding graduate school and job placements. Your First Days at Thiel College

New Hire Paperwork, Benefits and Other Materials

You will be scheduled to meet with HR prior to or on your first day of employment to complete new hire paperwork. HR will provide you a list of important documents that you will need to bring with you. Along with your new hire paperwork, HR will give you the forms needed to obtain your photo ID card and parking pass at the Public Safety Office, located on the second floor of the Howard Miller Student Center.

During the interview process you were given a brief overview of the benefits that Thiel College provides to employees. HR will schedule a complete benefit orientation within your first week at Thiel College.

Normal Work Hours

Normal work hours for staff office employees are 8 a.m.to 5 p.m. with a one hour lunch. Hours may be adjusted depending on your department. Alternate schedules will be determined by your supervisor.

Dining Services

The Howard Miller Student Center (HMSC) houses two campus dining services. Employees may choose to dine at the Rotunda Bistro (cafe-style) or Galleria Cafeteria (self-service buffet-style). Prepaid meal plans are available through the Student Accounts office or you can pay with cash, credit or debit card at the time of purchase.

Campus Tour/ Getting to Know Thiel College

Your supervisor will schedule a campus tour through the Admission department. It is a nice way to meet some of our great Thiel students! A member of your department will introduce you to your coworkers and others on campus.

You supervisor will make sure that you are provided with your keys, phone, computer and any other items you may need.

Professional Attire

It is the intent of Thiel College that all employees dress for their own comfort during work hours while maintaining the professional image of the College to the campus community and visitors.

Employees working in office areas should dress professionally, as defined by the department supervisor. Department supervisors may set reasonable restrictions to clothing, jewelry or cosmetic styles, and may ask an employee to change unsuitable attire if necessary. On approved casual days, employees may dress in Thiel College "Spirit" clothing. Employees meeting with visitors on casual days should wear appropriate attire.

Uniforms may be provided for employees in specific departments. Uniforms must be neat and clean, and position-appropriate footwear should be worn. In addition, personal protective equipment must be worn where prescribed for specific tasks performed by any employee.

Policies & Procedures

Employees can access the employee handbook, important forms and resources anywhere using the Thiel Hub! Forms are available in the Network Folders app under 'HR Forms'. On campus, access forms in the "L" drive _Forms folder.

The policies in the employee handbook are intended for all employees of Thiel College (policies that apply only to faculty members will be addressed in the Faculty Handbook). Specific information regarding HR policies, procedures, payroll and benefits is included in the handbook.

The institution reserves the right to revise, change, or terminate policies or procedures at any time, with or without notice.

Campus Technology

The I.T. Solution Center, located on the first floor of the Academic Center, provides campus technology service. Call x4000 or e-mail solutioncenter@thiel.edu if you're having any issues.

Special event requests for technology can be completed using the Submit an Event form. For VPN access, have your supervisor e-mail the Solution Center. PowerCAMPUS access can also be requested using the PowerCAMPUS access request form.

Thiel College provides each employee with an e-mail address. Some employees choose to access e-mail from their desktop or on their phones.

Moodle

{moodle} is Thiel’s LMS (Learning Management System), where faculty have the ability to communicate and teach students online. Faculty receive departmental training as needed. Various other resources are available on {moodle}, such as student employment and career development.

Printing on Campus

Thiel provides a campus-wide printing solution, in partnership with ComDoc. You have the ability to print anywhere using your college ID. If you’re having an issue with a specific printer, call the 800 number listed on the printer sticker.

The Docucenter, located in the ground floor of Harter Hall, is a quick-print shop with the ability to create customized print jobs. For more information, call x2267 or e-mail the Docucenter.

Technology Benefits

Mandatory Training

As part of the College’s efforts to prevent discrimination, harassment and sexual abuse, every employee, volunteer and resident assistant is required to complete training on these topics, and will be asked to renew this training at least every two years. Mandatory workplace safety training programs will also be assigned and are determined by your position here at Thiel College.

The ongoing training is usually done in a group setting, however your initial training is done using a web-based system.

Login using your Thiel provided e-mail address as your username, and Thiel as your password. Click on "Flash version in English" and view your assigned modules. The programs can be completed in one sitting, or over multiple sessions, and consist of informational segments followed by self-test questions. Confirmation of your completed modules will be placed in your employee file.

Acknowledgement of Completion

I have read and completed the New Employee Orientation Program to the best of my ability. I am aware that I can refer to the program materials at any time in the futrue. My initials below serve as my electronic signature acknowledgement of acceptance of the terms presented to me.
