GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Matthew Gehly, who teaches media production and secondary English at Greenville Junior Senior High School, has received recognition for his outstanding dedication to mentoring and educating students. He was honored at the third annual Thiel College Mentor of the Year Awards.
Gehly was nominated for the 2024 Jim Cunningham ’77 Media Mentor of the Year Award by Thiel College mathematics and actuarial studies major Alexa Beck ’26.
“Mr. Gehly taught me several skills pertaining to photography. His class was a blast and gave us the flexibility to create something whether it was a 10-minute short film or a 30-second goofy video,” Beck said. “Over the years, I have been able to apply many things I learned in his class.”
The event recognizes extraordinary professional and civic contributions, celebrating the deep connections they foster within the community. Overall, six educators and six professionals from the arts; business; media, science, technology, engineering, math; education; and were recognized this year.
“Many of us fondly recall a teacher who influenced our college choice or career path,” said Thiel College President Susan Traverso, Ph.D. “The Mentor Awards is an opportunity to recognize those mentors and role models who profoundly motivated a Thiel student.”
Also honored this year was WKBN news anchor Lindsey Watson who was presented with the James Pedas ’50, H’89 Communications Professional of the Year Award.
