GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The winners of Thiel College’s 2023 Business Professional of the Year Award and Business Mentor of the Year Award will be recognized at a special awards presentation and luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 31 in the Sawhill Georgian Room of the Howard Miller Student Center.

Peggy Mazyck, President/CEO of the VisitMercerCountyPA, is the winner of the 2023 Business Professional of the Year Award at Thiel. Mazyck has served as the President and CEO of the organization since 1996 and has served on the Board of Directors for a number of tourism-related organizations, including the Pennsylvania Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus. Through her vision and initiative, the Mercer County Tourist Promotion Agency has grown from a program with a $100,000 budget to one that now operates with a million-dollar budget. Mazyck has also developed programs and initiatives that are utilized by other organizations statewide. She received her Master of Business Administration from Youngstown State University in 2002.

The winner of the 2023 Business Mentor of the Year Award will also be announced during the awards luncheon. Thiel students nominated teachers in the field of business from their high school who had a profound impact on their education and life for this award. The winner will receive a trophy, a $250 Amazon gift card, and a $500 Amazon gift card to spend on their class or a school-related activity. The nominees for this year’s award include:

  • Toni Bucynski, Huntingdon Area Senior High School business teacher
  • David Snyder, Commodore Perry High School civics and government teacher
  • Jesse Hockenberry, Punxsutawney Area High School accounting and business teacher.
  • Kim Kladitis, New Castle Jr./Sr. High School accounting and business teacher.
  • Timothy Foor, Shikellamy High School accounting and business teacher.
  • Hiedi Grinnell, Mercer County Career Center entrepreneurship teacher.
  • Paul Sorby, Shaler Area High School accounting teacher.

The Business Mentor of the Year Award is an expansion of Thiel’s Mentor of the Year Initiative, which was launched in 2019 to acknowledge outstanding local and regional educators and professionals. There will be two more awards presentations in the coming month, with the Communication Mentor of the Year to be announced on April 14 and both the Science Educator and Women in STEM Mentor of the Year to be announced on April 21.
