GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The winners of Thiel College’s 2023 Communications Professional of the Year Award and Media Mentor of the Year Award will be recognized at a special awards presentation and luncheon at noon Friday, April 14 in the Sawhill Georgian Room of the Howard Miller Student Center.

Greg Vorse ’06, a contracted content creator, podcaster, and writer for Cover 1 Sports Network, is the winner of the 2023 James Pedas ’50 H’89 Communications Professional of the Year Award at Thiel. Along with working at Cover 1 Sports Network, an independent media company that is dedicated to news surrounding the Buffalo Bills of the NFL, Vorse also works as a freelance broadcaster for LTN Global and ESPN. Over the course of his professional career in the telecommunications industry, he has covered several pro championships, including the Stanley Cup Finals, the NBA Finals, and the 2007 World Series. Vorse is also highly skilled and experienced in broadcasting, team building, public speaking, social media, and public relations. He graduated from Thiel in 2006 with a communications degree in broadcast journalism.

The winner of the 2023 Jim Cunningham ’77 Media Mentor of the Year Award will also be announced during the awards luncheon. Current Thiel students nominated teachers in the field of media from their high school who had a profound impact on their education and life for this award. The winner will receive a trophy, a $250 Amazon gift card, and a $500 Amazon gift card to spend on their class or a school-related activity. The nominees for this year’s award include:

  • Andrew Berrier, Chambersburg Area Senior High School.
  • Heather Bixler, Beaver Area High School.
  • Brigid Edwards, Struthers High School.
  • Emily Rauschenbach, Champion High School.
  • Linda Schirmer, Clarion-Limestone Area Junior/Senior High School.
  • Kasey Smith, Gettysburg Area High School.
  • Michael Woods, Corry Area High School.

The Media Mentor of the Year Award is an expansion of Thiel’s Mentor of the Year Initiative, which was launched in 2019 to acknowledge outstanding local and regional educators and professionals. Another awards presentation will be held on April 21 to announce both the Science Educator and Women in STEM Mentors of the Year.
