GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announces Alexa Beck ’26, of Greenville, Pa., and Jordan Wilhoit ’26, of McDonald, Pa., as its Student of the Month honorees for November.

The Student of the Month distinction is awarded to seniors and is among the College’s most prestigious student honors. Only six students receive the recognition each semester.

Beck is a 2023 graduate of Greenville High School and a double major in actuarial studies and mathematics. After graduation, she plans to begin her career in the insurance industry and advance as an actuary by pursuing the required professional examinations.

She is involved in campus life and holds several leadership roles. Beck serves as president of Kappa Mu Epsilon, the math and computer science honor society, president of the Creative Writing Club, and editor-in-chief of The Phoenix, Thiel’s creative writing publication. She is also involved in the marching band and theatre, Circle K, the Dietrich Honors Institute, Alpha Chi, W.I.N.G., Art Club, Amusement Park Club, APO theatre honor society, and the Thiel College Music Honorary Society. She works in the Admissions Office as a Thiel Team member and serves as a lead tutor in the Learning Commons.

She is the daughter of Brad and Margaret Beck, of Greenville, Pa., and the granddaughter of Patricia (Sesa) Gilmore, also of Greenville.

“My experience at Thiel has strengthened my independence and fueled my ambition,” Beck said. “The friends I’ve made and the supportive faculty and staff make every day on campus meaningful. Many commuters, myself included, worried about feeling ‘left out’ at the start of their freshman year. Fortunately, that is far from reality. I truly look forward to going to classes, spending time with my friends, and interacting with the supportive faculty and staff at Thiel.”

Beck recognized the Learning Commons staff and the Department of Math and Computer Science for their support. She credited Hannah Keeling ’08 and Robin Sakonyi for mentoring her in tutoring and thanked faculty, including Jie Wu, Ph.D.; Jeonghun Kim, Ph.D.; Thomas Dulaney, Ph.D.; and Kenneth Stitt for inspiring her love of mathematics. She also acknowledged Professor of English Mary Theresa Hall, Ph.D. for continuously challenging her to excel.

Wilhoit is a 2022 graduate of Fort Cherry High School and a biochemistry and chemistry major. After graduation, he plans to pursue a Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry. If that opportunity does not immediately arise, he intends to work as a laboratory technician until it does.

At Thiel, Wilhoit is actively involved in philanthropy through Kappa Sigma, including annual fundraising initiatives for local veterans, such as the recent See-Saw-a-Thon. He is the son of Brian Wilhoit, of McDonald, Pa.

“I have enjoyed every moment at Thiel,” Wilhoit said. “The staff and faculty have uplifted my academic career in every way. It has been an honor to call myself a Thiel student—if I hadn’t seen Thiel’s booth at a college fair, I don’t know where I would be.”

Wilhoit recognized Accessibility Resource Center Director Erin Bain and Professor of Chemistry Guru Khalsa, Ph.D. for their guidance.

“Erin Bain has always been there to diffuse any situations that happen in my life, and just be a grounding figure,” Wilhoit said. “I would also like to recognize Dr. Guru Khalsa for the constructive criticism I have received throughout the years, and the many interesting talks about chemistry and the future, whether it is my own or the world in general.”
