2021-22 athletics accomplishments celebrated at Tommys

GREENVILLE, Pa.—The Thiel College Department of Athletics and the Thiel College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee hosted the inaugural awards program for the College’s student-athletes, the Tommys, Thursday at William A. Passavant Center.

Honoring academic, as well as team and individual athletic achievement, five major awards were voted on and distributed by members of Thiel's SAAC, including: Rookie of the Year, Top Notch Tommy, Comeback Player of the Year, Two-Sport Athlete of the Year, and Athlete of the Year.
The following is a list of Tommy award winners: 
Rookie of the Year

  • Women: Maria Torres ’25, volleyball
  • Men: Chase Lawler ’25, football & lacrosse

Top Notch Tommy

  • Women: Rachel Breckenridge ’22, basketball
  • Men: Logan Pistorius ’22, golf

Comeback Player of the Year

  • Women: Madison Liggett ’24, lacrosse & basketball
  • Men: Peyton Hearn ’23, wrestling

Two-Sport Athlete of the Year

  • Women: Destiny Johnson ’23, lacrosse & basketball
  • Men: Malik Beckford ’22, football & track & field

Athlete of the Year

  • Women: Kaylee Suarez ’23, track & field
  • Men: Evan Whiteside ’24, wrestling & lacrosse

The wrestling and cheer teams were also recognized. The wrestling team won its 23rd Presidents' Athletic Conference title in February. The cheer team finished second earlier in April at the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) College Nationals in Daytona, Fla.
