GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The Thiel College wrestling team won its 23rd President’s Athletic Conference championship on Saturday, Feb. 12 at Waynesburg University’s Rudy Marisa Fieldhouse.
Thiel won the title for the first time since 2016 and tied former PAC member John Carroll for most team titles.
Nine Thiel wrestlers competed in the championship finals. Evan Whiteside ’24, of Monroeville, Pa.; Hunter Thompson ’24, of Titusville, Pa.; Hunter Martz ’23, of Hawthorn, Pa.; Logan Long ’23, of North Bend, Pa.; Peyton Hearn ’23, of Conneaut, Pa., and Bryce McCloskey ’24, of Greenville, Pa. each won individual titles.
Whiteside, who won the 125-pound title, was named the PAC’s Most Outstanding Wrestler. He is the first Thiel wrestler to be given that title since 2016. The PAC Newcomer of the Year honor went to Thompson, who won the 133-pound title. Craig Thurber, the Rod E. Wilt ’86 Head Coach for Thiel Wrestling, was honored as the PAC Coach of the Year for the ninth time in his career.
Thiel will compete in the NCAA Division III Southeast Regional Championships on Feb. 25-26 at Lycoming College. The NCAA Division III Championships will be at the U.S. Cellular Center in Grand Rapids, Iowa on March 11-12.
