Since 1928, the Thiel College community has celebrated the Academic Honors Convocation to recognize the academic achievements of Thiel students. First-year, sophomore, junior, and senior students who earned Dean’s List honors are awarded certificates to mark their successes. Students who have received named and endowed scholarships are also formally recognized, along with members of Alpha Chi, the National College Honor Scholarship Society, and the Dietrich Honors Institute.

Below is an excerpt from the History of Thiel College 1866-1974 by Roy H. Johnson.
On October 17, 1931, for the first time, a significant recognition ceremony, an Honors Convocation for superior students, began. Twenty-six students who had earned at least a 3.25 (B+) average were cited. With many supplemental awards, including scholarships to graduate schools, Thiel student assistantships and fellows, fraternity and sorority scholarship awards, and achievement prizes given by individuals, Honors Convocation became an annual event.
Traditionally, the College celebrated Honors Convocation during the fall semester and recognized the academic achievements of students from the previous spring semester. However, in 2018 the Convocation celebration was officially moved to the spring semester in order to include the achievements of first-year students following their first semester at Thiel.
