Unbeaten Tomcat wrestlers warm up for PAC championships at invitational

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The unbeaten Thiel College Tomcats travel to Berea, Ohio at 10 a.m. Saturday to wrestle in the 35th Annual John Summa Invitational the Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse.

The Tomcats, winners of seven straight matches, ended January on a high note with Peyton Hearn ’23 and Alexander Anderson ’25 earning honors from the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.

Hearn, of Conneaut Lake, Pa., was named the Wrestler of the Week for the week of Jan. 24–30 and Anderson, of Warren, Pa., was named the Rookie of the Week.

Saturday’s tournament is the last event before the Tomcats head to Waynesburg for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference championships on Feb. 12. Thiel’s last PAC championship came in 2016 when they won back-to-back titles. The Tomcats have 22 championships including a run of 10 straight from 2000–2009 that capped an amazing 17 titles in 19 years.

Host Baldwin-Wallace University is ranked fifth in NCAA Division III by the National Wrestling Coaches Association. Thiel won the John Summa Invitational in 1993.
