GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Of the eight award nominations the Thiel College Communications Department received for the 82nd annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System Awards, three individuals were selected as winners at the yearly conference held recently on Saturday, March 5.
“I’m so proud of our Media students,” Watts said. “The leadership they show and important community connections they make through their media is invaluable and fits right in with Thiel’s strategies moving forward. Their hard work, talents, and dedication put them right up there, nationally, with top-notch schools and students who are from major institutions. They are amazing. I’m also honored to be recognized by IBS within the field I’ve instructed. For me, it’s ending my time at Thiel, which I appreciate, on a positive note.”
Watts is retiring after the spring semester.
“I was delighted to see that my hard work and dedication to TCTV has paid off on a national level,” Orczeck said. “I was happy to be able to share the moment with my friends and coworkers. I would like to thank professors (Ross) Nugent and Pete Rydberg for their support throughout the project as well as everyone at Thiel who made the project possible."
“I am beyond grateful to WXTC and our supporters for helping us achieve greatness during this year’s 82nd annual Awards,” Ganiear said. “Being awarded The Best Business Director and Best Underwriting Spot awards during my time at the radio station is something that I will cherish forever in my professional and personal life!”
The other individuals nominated were Samantha DiBucci ’23 for Best Station Promo for “Fall ’21 Promo” and Best Variety Program for “Moonlight Magic,” and Ethan Stishan ’22 for Best Station Manager. Orczeck was also nominated for Best Production Director and Ganiear for Best Newscast.
The IBS conference is typically in New York City each spring, but the annual event was held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This was the eighth year that TCTV and WXTC students participated.
