GREENVILLE, Pa.—Hermitage businessman John R. Frangakis will be awarded an honorary degree as part of Thiel College’s 2019 Academic Honors Convocation at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8 in the William A. Passavant Memorial Center.
Academic Honors Convocation has been celebrated at Thiel College annually since 1928. The event marks the academic accomplishments of Thiel College’s top students. Members of the top academic honorary society, Alpha Chi, will be recognized as will the achievements in scholarship, leadership, and innovation by other students. New this year will be the announcement of the sorority and fraternity with the top grade point average.
“Academic Honors Convocation is an important opportunity to recognize members of our campus community who embody the spirit of scholarship, creativity and engagement,” Thiel College President Susan Traverso, Ph.D., said. “The students being honored reflect what can be achieved through curiosity and motivation. It is for those same qualities that we recognize John Frangakis, a remarkable entrepreneur and leader in our region.”
Frangakis was a member of the Board of Trustees from 2008–2017 and will return to the board on Saturday, Feb. 9. Frangakis was the chairperson of the 2016 Presidential Search Committee. He was a trustee during the College’s Thiel 2016 Capital Campaign, which raised more than $60 million. Frangakis is chairman and chief executive officer of Reynolds Service Inc. and chief executive officer of Cross IT Services & Solutions, LLC. Frangakis is also active with The Frangakis Family Charitable Foundation Trust, founded by John’s parents, F. John and Joyce E. Frangakis. The trust is dedicated to improving the communities in which they work and live in by influencing positive change for current and future generations.
