GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College fraternity Phi Theta Phi will be in Pittsburgh Friday, November 22 as part of the City of Pittsburgh’s Light Up Night holiday celebration to fundraise for its upcoming 100-mile walk to Children’s Hospital.
Phi Theta Phi has raised more than $1.6 million for the Hospital’s Free Care Fund since it began its annual 100-mile Walk-a-thon in 1968. The fraternity was recognized with the “Leaps and Bounds” Award at the annual Corporate and Community Dinner of the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh Foundation on May 8. The Walk-a-thon raised $55,884.72 during its December 2018 Walk from Greenville, Pa. to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh. The total was the most a single walk raised in the event’s 50-year history.
Phi Theta Phi leaves Greenville on Dec. 6 for this year’s walk.
While the brothers will be collecting donations at Light Up Night, there are other ways to donate, too.
In 2014, Phi Theta Phi was recognized as one of the Top 10 donors to the Fund. The Pennsylvania House of Representatives and the Pennsylvania Senate have cited the chapter for its service, and in 2002, the Association of Fundraising Professionals acknowledged them as an outstanding philanthropic organization. In 2015, the College recognized the fraternity with a Service to Thiel Award.
The brothers of Phi Theta Phi will not be the only Thiel College representatives at Light Up Night. Pittsburgh-area alumni and friends will get a special preview of Thiel College’s 67th Christmas Festival with a special performance at First English Lutheran Church as part of the 6 p.m. Vespers during the city’s “Light -Up Night” on November 22.
