GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College Environmental Safety Management students presented and were recognized during the 13th Annual American Society of Safety Professionals Western Pennsylvania Section Professional Development Conference held March 26 at Indiana University of Pennsylvania’s Kovalchick Conference and Athletic Complex.
Seven students and Assistant Professor of Environmental Safety Management Hope Dropp and Professor of Environmental Science Anna Reinsel, Ph.D. ’06 attended the event that brought together regional safety professionals, educators, and students to discuss industry trends, connect with peers, and share research and best practices in safety.
The conference featured a full day of professional development programming for attendees, including sessions led by industry experts covering a wide range of topics, such as the implementation of artificial intelligence and technology in the field, cognitive and behavioral safety, medical management, and broad safety management. Attendees had numerous networking opportunities with professionals working in occupational safety and environmental health fields.
Additionally, student presentations were also featured during the conference, with participants from several colleges and universities sharing their research projects on safety-related management and practices. Thiel students Natalie Hering ’26, Tyler Hussey ’26, and John Bresnan ’26 presented their research project focused on hazard communication and laboratory safety.
In addition to the student presentations, Thiel student Laris Bielata ’26 was recognized during the conference for receiving a scholarship from the society’s western Pennsylvania section. The scholarship acknowledges students who demonstrate strong academic performance and are dedicated to the field of safety management.
Participation in events like the ASSP Professional Development Conference enables Thiel students to engage directly with professionals in their field, applying classroom knowledge to real-world safety issues. Opportunities such as presenting research to professionals and networking with industry leaders help prepare Environmental Safety Management students for successful careers in occupational safety and environmental health.
