GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College will host the Beijing Guitar Duo as a part of the Con Spirito Chamber Music Concert Series at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21 in the David Johnson Memorial Chapel.
Founded in 2009, the Beijing Guitar Duo, featuring Meng Su and Yameng Wang, has performed around the world in halls such as the Concertgebouw, Palau de Musica, Tchaikovsky Hall, and the National Theatre in Beijing. The duo regularly collaborates with orchestras and other artists, including flutist Marina Piccinini, guitarists the Grigoryan Brothers, and renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco. Not only has the duo impressed audiences worldwide, but they have also been praised by Classical Guitar Magazine as “having the star potential to serve as inspiration for new generations of guitarists to come.” The Beijing Guitar Duo began a 12-city concert tour in the United States this February and will also perform in locations across Europe and China.
In 2007, the tradition of musical excellence started when LaVonne H’16 and the late Glen R. Johnson H’88, in honor of their late daughter, created the series to bring top musical talent to Thiel College and the region. Con Spirito is just one of the offerings at Thiel that connects the college to the regional arts community.
The Con Spirito Concert Series is always free and open to the public and is in its 17th year of bringing world-class music to Greenville and Thiel College.
