Thiel College hosting local band, rapper and student performers for VH1 Save the Music Fest

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Students from the Thiel College student radio station, WXTC, are hosting their fifth annual music festival to support the VH1 Save the Music Foundation at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 22 in the Howard Miller Student Center.

“We utilize this event two ways: One is a teaching/learning experience for media majors to experience what it takes to put on a larger, live event, and the other main purpose is to support our organization’s philanthropy—VH1 Save the Music Foundation,” WXTC advisor Peg Watts said. “Music education in public schools is at risk for budget and time constraints. However, music education enhances overall learning as we see this as vital to student outcomes.”

The event is free and open to the public. Donations will be collected for the Foundation. This event is sponsored by the James Pedas Communication Center, Thiel SGA, the Department of Media, Communication and Public Relations Department, Thiel Student Life, WXTC 88.1FM and TCTV

Local rock favorites Juvenile Characteristics will play. Emerging hip-hop performer and rapper Young Guy B, who is launching his college tour at this event, will perform.

Thiel College students are on the schedule, too.

Talia Jackson ’21, a 2017 graduate of Meadville (Pa.) High School, Jake Morgan ’19, a 2015 graduate of Greenville (Pa.), and Talia O’Brien ’20 will perform rock and pop music and as part of a poetry slam.

“I appreciate Professor Watts leading students through the educational process of planning, organizing, marketing, and managing a live event for the campus community,” said James Pedas Communication Center executive director Kyle Woody said. “Moving forward, we want to continue to offer more opportunities for students to apply coursework knowledge toward practical experiences.”

The event will include a ticket auction to raise money for the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Food and drinks will also be available.
