GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College Professor of History and the Kenneth ’31 and Marianna Brown ’32 Dietrich Honors Institute Chair Sheila Nowinski, Ph.D. and the former Director of the Langenheim Memorial Library Tressa Snyder presented at the National Collegiate Honors Council’s 2023 conference in Chicago late this past year.
Nowinski and Snyder presented a 90-minute interactive workshop, “Find a place you trust and try trusting it awhile: Weaving Creativity into the Honors Thesis Process.” The presentation engaged participants in creative exercises inspired by a popular silk-screen artist Corita Kent.
The College has several Kent prints in its private collection. In 2018, a student worked with the College’s Curator of Art to restore the prints and they were exhibited in the Weyers-Sampson Art Gallery on campus.
The workshop highlighted a recently revised honors course that draws connections between the creative and research processes in preparation for students’ honors theses, the culmination of the Dietrich Honors Institute curriculum.
