GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College’s Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology program is expanding clinical learning opportunities and community services with the launch of “Bundles of Learning,” a play-based language development program for preschool-aged children at the Thiel Center for Speech-Language Services.
The new program, free and open to children ages 2–5, integrates evidence-based intervention strategies into clinical practice while supporting early language, communication and literacy development. Running June 8 through July 31, Bundles of Learning uses interactive book reading, guided play and hands-on materials to build vocabulary, social communication and early literacy skills in a developmentally appropriate setting.
The initiative was supported by a teaching innovation grant from the Judge and Mrs. George H. Rowley Endowment for Teaching Excellence at Thiel College. The project strengthens alignment between graduate coursework and clinical application by incorporating shared interactive book reading and narrative-based intervention strategies into both settings.
“(The program) allows our students to connect what they learn in the classroom directly to the children and families they serve,” Program Director for the M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology Amy Tepper, Ed.D. said.
Bundles of Learning is grounded in developmental science, emphasizing the role of early experiences in brain development and language growth. Children participate in structured, meaningful interactions that promote talking, listening, imaginative play and social engagement—skills that are foundational for school readiness and later academic success. The program also reflects research linking early language delays to future literacy challenges, making early intervention a key component of long-term educational outcomes.
The Bundles of Learning materials and the Early Communication Intervention Online Interactive Course materials combine language, literacy, play and social communication strategies and support consistent implementation and parent engagement. In addition to supporting child outcomes, the initiative advances professional preparation for students pursuing careers in speech-language pathology, early childhood intervention and school-based therapy. Planned interdisciplinary collaboration with education students beginning in fall 2026 will further expand the program’s reach and impact.
The Thiel Center for Speech-Language Services is located on campus and provides diagnostic and therapeutic services to individuals across the lifespan while serving as a clinical training site for graduate students. The Bundles of Learning program enhances these services by offering targeted early intervention for young children with language delays.
