GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Centerville High School senior Nevaeh Haskins, of Dayton, Ohio, was awarded an academic scholarship worth $141,000 to Thiel College during a surprise presentation on Wednesday, Jan. 12 at her high school.
Haskins was one of five winners for 2022. James Cromwell-Young, of Virginia Beach, Va.; Toby Atwood, of Kittanning, Pa.; and Alexis Brown, of Chesterland, Ohio were the first recipients. The final winner has yet to be announced. Haskins won the scholarship based on her performance at a scholarship competition with about 150 other applicants in late 2021.
She plans to major in nursing.
“I am very, very thankful that I can go and get an education at such an amazing school,” Haskins said. “I am looking forward to growing into the best version of myself.”
Haskins serves as a mentor to ninth-grade students as part of the Elk Connector program. She is a drum major and marched with Elks marching band during the 2021 Macy’s Day Parade.
Haskins’ mother, Samona (Douglas) Haskins ’00, is a graduate of Thiel College.
