GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College announces Devyn Bossard ’24, of Townville, Pa., and Emily Irons ’24, of Franklin, Pa., as its Student of the Month honorees for October.

The Student of the Month honor is awarded to seniors. It is among the most prestigious student awards at Thiel College with only six students each semester earning the honor.

He has worked as a Peer Mentor and is a member of Dietrich Honors Institute, mathematics honors society Kappa Mu Epsilon, English honors society Sigma Tau Delta, Thiel Student Support Network and Staff Appreciation Club. He was also one of the founding members of the group that created the STEAM Room, a study space in Langenheim Memorial Library.

Bossard graduated from Maplewood High School in 2020. He is the son of Tami Bossard, of Townville, Pa. Following graduation, he plans to become a Subway franchisee.

“I am grateful for the experiences and opportunities that I have received at Thiel College,” Bossard said.

He thanked Professor of English Mary Theresa Hall, Ph.D.; Professor of Mathematics and Department of Mathematics and Computer Science chair and Assistant Professor of Education Jeonghun Kim, Ph.D.; Director of Teacher Education and Department of Education chair Kara Schreckenghost, “for their continuous support throughout my college career.”

Irons is an early childhood education and special education major and English minor. She is a member of Dietrich Honors Institute and Active Minds. She is an English 101 liaison, Excel Opportunities peer mentor and an Honors 109 peer mentor. Irons is applying to the Peace Corps and following graduation hopes to teach in a third world country and inspire children all over the world.

She holds leadership positions in several organizations. She is president of the Alpha Chi academic honor society, president of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority, president of Order of Omega Greek leadership honor society for undergraduate members of fraternity and sorority organizations, vice president of Kappa Delta Pi education honor society, vice president of the Student Government Association and past Ritual Chair for Lambda Sigma sophomore honor society. She is the daughter of Kerry and Julie Irons, both of Franklin, Pa., and older sister of Jordan Irons, also of Franklin, Pa.

“Thiel College has made all my dreams come true as well as inspired me to achieve new ones. I would not be the student, leader, or person I am today without all the incredible people I have met or the experiences I have had here,” Irons said.

She thanked Professor Schreckenghost and Associate Professor of Education Calli Shekell, Ph.D. for “encouraging and motivating me to be the best educator possible” and Assistant Professor of English Sheila Gross, Ph.D. ’10 for “sparking my passion and love for English” and Assistant Professor of Neuroscience and Department of Neuroscience chair Neil Lax, Ph.D. for “his continued kindness and support.”
