An interdisciplinary group of 10 Thiel faculty participated in a two-day workshop about enhancing the Digital Humanities at Thiel on August 7-8. The workshop was organized by Professor of History and Department Chair David Buck, Ph.D. and Assistant Professor of English Sheila Gross, Ph.D. ’10 and led by Adrian Wisnicki, Ph.D. Digital Humanities Program Coordinator at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
The group discussed humanistic approaches to digital tools and technologies, potential student-faculty collaborations, and the integration of AI tools in the classroom and research.
“I'm excited that our departments are taking the initiative to integrate more digital approaches in our classes,” Gross said.
“I appreciated the opportunity to think through complex pedagogical problems posed by AI tools with my colleagues,” Director, Dietrich Honors Institute and Associate Professor of History Sheila Nowinski, Ph.D. said.
“The digital humanities workshop enriched my toolkit, fostering innovative teaching methods and advancing interdisciplinary collaborations,” Assistant Professor of History Jay Donis, Ph.D. said.
The workshop focused on preparing grant funding for a Digital Humanities initiative at Thiel and served as a launching pad for continued work in the upcoming academic year. Pictured are Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Russ Richins, Ph.D., Gross, First Year Curriculum Coordinator and Lecturer of English Sean Oros ’15, Buck, and Professor of Philosphy Matthew Morgan, Ph.D. Participating online were Professor of Religion George Branch-Trevathan, Ph.D. and Wisnicki.
