Maintenance-Grounds and Setup

This position is dayshift (M-F), but may require some flexibility for occasional evenings and weekends. This is a great role for working parents as shifts start early in the morning and end in the early afternoon.

Thiel College is currently seeking motivated and qualified candidates for a full-time Maintenance Grounds and Setup role. This position is responsible for performing various day-to-day groundskeeping and event setup services including, but not limited to, caring for lawns, hedges, mulch beds, and trees by mowing, edging, trimming, cleaning, raking, custodial duties, snow removal, transporting and setting up items as needed for campus events, both large and small. This position is for (M-F) dayshift, but may require some flexibility or occasional evenings and weekends.

Qualifications:

Previous groundskeeping experience is preferred Applicant should exhibit customer service skills with a professional, confidential, and positive personality, maintain a working knowledge of a wide range of vehicles, machinery, and equipment utilized in all areas of the physical plant. This position responds daily to work orders, emergency repairs, and campus departments/services, and operates college equipment and other off-road vehicles. Accountable for selected projects. The selected candidate will be required to perform other general maintenance duties as assigned. Thiel College Facilities is a team-working environment.

Education and Experience:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • At least two years of experience in facilities or building maintenance.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders and technical information
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively.
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Ability to perform the physical demands of the position while adhering to safety and regulatory standards are also required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Good physical condition, motor skills, hand and eye coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • May be required to lift, push, or pull up to 70 pounds.
  • May be required to crouch, kneel, bend, or stand for long periods.
  • Capable of climbing at moderate heights.
  • Possible exposure to chemical, mechanical, or electrical hazards, dust, fumes, and odorous working conditions.
  • May be required to work outdoors in inclement weather.
  • May be required to wear protective clothing or devices, such as goggles, gloves, masks or shields.

Supervision:

  • Supervises some student workers and/or provide functional guidance of support staff or other employees who work on a project or assignment on a temporary or intermittent basis.

Safety/Training Requirements:

  • Continuing education for topics relevant to the field.
  • Periodic training on topics of nondiscrimination, prevention of harassment, prevention of sexual misconduct, and other topics as required.
  • General safety training and ergonomics training relevant to an office environment.
  • A post-job-offer physical exam and background check will be required (scheduled and paid by the College).
