Fairmont Heights High School senior awarded full scholarship at media event

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Fairmont Heights High School senior Ayodele Ogunibe, of Brandywine, Md., has been awarded an academic scholarship worth $129,000 to Thiel College in Greenville, Pa.

The scholarship announcement was made Wednesday morning at the high school with many of her classmates, representatives of the school administration and Thiel College along with her family and two Washington, D.C. television news crews in attendance.

“This is such a wonderful celebration of this young woman’s hard work. She has strove for this achievement. We are happy to be part of inviting Ayo into our community,” Vice President of Enrollment Management Ashley Josay Zullo said. “We can’t wait until she arrives on campus and connects with our community and takes the next steps toward her personal and professional goals.”

She plans to major in computer science. At Fairmont Heights, Ogunibe is involved in the math honor society, the National Honor Society, the information technology academy and marching band.

“Hard work pays off,” Ogunibe said as she held the giant cardboard promotional check at Wednesday’s event. “I am speechless. I don’t know what to say. (I’m so excited) I won.”

She is a daughter of Ayomide and Oyodeji Ogunibe, of Brandywine, Md.

As part of Wednesday’s event, Ogunibe’s classmate Jekhia Williams was awarded an $8,000 Dean’s Scholars award for Thiel College.
