GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, will exhibit “Truths and Fictions: Paintings and Drawings by Terry McKelvey” from Jan. 18 to Feb. 16 in the Weyers-Sampson Gallery of the Howard Miller Student Center. Opening reception and gallery talk will begin on Thursday, Jan. 18 from 2:30-4:30 p.m.

McKelvey specializes in paintings and drawings on direct observations of his subjects. Most recently, his paintings explore existential narratives and metaphorical possibilities through non-observational and figure based images. Fueled by imagination, the images expose the concern with perceptual difficulties such as light, color and space. The solo exhibition combines McKelvey’s rarely exhibited figure drawings alongside recent paintings and considers the aesthetic and conceptual relationship between these two bodies of work. McKelvey lives in Erie, Pa. and teaches undergraduate and graduate painting, drawing, and 2D foundations at Edinboro University.

The Weyers-Sampson Gallery is open to the public from 10 a.m. to noon and 2-4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, the gallery is open from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m. For more information, contact Professor of Art and Curator of Art Sean McConnor at 724-589-2095.
