Thiel Players to present ‘The Guys’ on 14th anniversary of 9/11 attacks

GREENVILLE, Pa.—The curtain goes up on the Thiel Players’ first fall production, “The Guys,” on Sept. 11-12. The play by Anne Nelson will be performed in the College’s William A. Robinson Theater. Opening night of the production takes place on the 14th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, a central point for the story.

In the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, a journalist helps a fire captain craft eulogies for his lost men. The production is free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted at both performances for the Michael Lynch Memorial Foundation. The foundation was created in memory of Fire Department of New York firefighter Michael Lynch. He died responding to the 9/11 attacks, and the foundation provides educational grants to the children of firefighters and other victims of the attacks.

“I will always remember where I was on 9/11 and what I saw on the news, but this story gives a different angle to one of the most tragic days in history,” student director Sara Gerdy said. “As I read the full script, I could see it coming to life on our stage through the tears in my eyes. This piece has a place on the stage even after 14 years and will decades from now.”

Showtimes are at 7:30 p.m. both nights. The William A. Robinson Theater is located behind the William A. Passavant Memorial Center on Thiel College’s campus.

The production is free and open to the public, but reservations are encouraged. For reservations for “The Guys,” email reservations@thiel.edu or call 724-589-2847.
