GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College is hosting the fourth annual Buhl Regional Health Foundation’s Fall Forum from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12 in the Lutheran Heritage Room of the Howard Miller Student Center. The forum focuses on the impacts of trauma and early childhood events.

The forum, “Working Together to Create Trauma-Informed Communities,” is booked, but portions of the event will be live-streamed and archived on Thiel College’s YouTube channel.

The schedule includes the discussions “The Nature and Impact of Adverse Childhood Experiences,” at 8:45 a.m., “Fostering Resiliency in Individuals, Families and Communities,” at 10 a.m. and a panel discussion at 10:45 a.m.

“The (forum) is part of the mission of the Buhl Regional Health Foundation…the promotion of collaborative partnerships and programs, capacity building and grants which will focus on and invest in all people impacted by health-related needs throughout their lives,” Buhl Regional Health Foundation Executive Director Mickey Gula said. “This is an opportunity to bring attention to the impact of traumatic life experience. I am hopeful that our  community can learn more about the impact of traumatic life experiences and begin to work together to address and coordinate services to assist people in the communities served by the Foundation who have experienced traumatic life experiences.”

The daylong event will bring together experts from the community:

  • Audrey Smith, licensed psychologist, Parkside Psychology
  • Harry Nelson, Parkside Psychological
  • Alice C. Long, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, Human Development and Family Studies, Penn State Shenango
  • April Torrance, Ph.D., Executive Director, Zion Education Center
  • Laura Leskovac, Project Director, Mercer County Communities That Care
