Thiel College women’s volleyball earns top seed in PAC championship tournament

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- For the first time in program history, the Thiel College women’s volleyball team has earned the top seed for the Presidents’ Athletic Conference women’s volleyball championship tournament.

The Tomcats, who won nine of 10 conference matches this season, will host one of the two semifinal contests at 7 p.m. Thursday. Thiel has advanced to the tournament title match three times in the history of the program (2009, 2010, 2012). With the No. 1 seed, Thiel will receive a quarterfinal bye in the conference tournament.

The six-team championship tournament to determine the PAC champion will begin on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, with a pair of quarterfinal matches. The tournament winner will receive the conference's automatic qualifying bid to the NCAA Division III championship. The PAC is one of 44 conferences granted automatic qualification (Pool A) to the Division III Championship.

Thiel will host No. 5 Chatham 7 p.m. Thursday, November 3 at Maenpa Court at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Earning the top seed was not the only big news for the Tomcats. Maria Torres ’25 was named the conference’s Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the second time this season and the fourth time in her career she has been honored with the award.

The title match will be played Saturday, November 5, 2022, at the highest remaining seed following Thursday's semifinal round.

Admission to all PAC championship tournament matches is $5 for adults and $2 for students, with students at PAC host institutions admitted for free with valid identification.
