GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Members of the Thiel College community are joining 30,000 expected participants in Houston starting today for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America national youth gathering.
Representatives from The College’s Campus Ministry and Office of Admission are representing Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, by interacting with youth who are interested in attending a Lutheran college. This triennial gathering is the second straight gathering Thiel College is attending. Thiel College attended the 2015 “RiseUp Together” gathering in Detroit. The ELCA national gathering is the largest youth gathering of its kind in the world.
Thiel College student Mak Sanders ’21 joins campus pastor Jayne Thompson and admissions counselor Evan Gruver at the Lutheran gathering. Sanders, of Newberry, Ohio, is a 2017 graduate of Newberry High School. He is a religion and history major.
The Thiel College team is one of 26 ELCA colleges and universities assisting in the morning blessing services for the work teams and working the large interaction center in the afternoons. They will be meeting teens and talking about vocation and college choices after graduation.
Programming will take place in three main venues, NRG Stadium, NRG Arena and NRG Center, located just outside of downtown Houston in the entertainment complex known as NRG Park, a convention and sports entertainment complex. The complex hosts many sporting events and conventions each year, the largest of which are the Houston Texans football games, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and the Grand Prix of Houston.
