Thiel College spotlights its top business students with awards and honorary inductions

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Faculty members in Thiel College’s Arthur McGonigal Department of Business Administration and Accounting recognized the top students in the department recently with departmental awards and inductions into the business honorary society.

In accordance with social distancing requirements as part of the COVID-19 pandemic, the awards and inductions were held as one of the largest web-based events ever hosted by the College.

The event started with the naming of this year’s incoming group of students named to the Department’s honorary society, Chi Eta Sigma. To qualify for admission to Chi Eta Simga, a student must be a junior or senior year business major with a 3.5 GPA in the major and a 3.25 overall.

The returning members of the honorary—Angel Bartholomew ’20, Zechariah Dubel ’20, Alec Gamble ’20, Andrew Giesey ’20, Mariel Hanely ’20, Wesley Hyslop ’20, Brenna Parsley ’20 and Justin Pearce ’20—joined with honorary advisor and Assistant Professor of Business Administration and Accounting John Gomolchak, Esq., to welcome the new members. The new members admitted to the honorary for 2020 are George Cupec ’21, Charles Lichtenwalter ’21, Annmarie Moore ’20, Bailey Shepard ’21 and Macy Siefert ’21.

The event also included the awarding of the Department’s three highest awards. The Wall Street Journal Award was presented by Professor of Business Administration and Accounting Angelo Giannini to Dubel.

The Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accounts Senior Accounting Award was presented by Associate Professor of Business Administration and Accounting and Associate Chair Melissa Oakes ’03 to Hanely.

The Business Administration and Accounting Departmental Award was presented by Professor of Business Administration and Accounting and Department Chair Tony Kos, Ph.D. to Parsley.

After the awards presentations, the featured speaker at the event was Professor of Business Administration and Accounting and David M. Miller Endowed Chair of Accounting Gary Witosky ’79.

About Thiel College
