Thiel College names executive director of facilities management

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College announced this week that R. Michael Brown has been appointed executive director of facilities management. His first day was Monday, April 23.

With an extensive work history in educational facilities, Brown is experienced with facilities and maintenance as well as construction master planning and project management. He most recently served as executive associate at Heery International Inc., a professional services firm focusing on architecture, engineering and construction management, and director of the Office of University Architect at Kent State University.

“We are thrilled to welcome Michael to Thiel College,” said Dr. Troy D. VanAken, Thiel College president. “With his impressive resume and familiarity with all facets of higher education facilities, maintenance and construction management, he will be an invaluable asset to Thiel as we enter a period of investment in our campus’ academic, residential and athletic facilities.”

Brown holds a bachelor’s degree from Kent State University in architecture and is a registered architect.

As executive director of facilities management, Brown will provide administrative and technical oversight and management of major construction projects, routine maintenance of campus properties, buildings, grounds and utilities, and staff and student workers in Maintenance and Housekeeping Departments as well as external contractors assigned to campus projects.
