Thiel College hosted Carnegie Science Center and elementary students to support Earth Day

GREENVILLE, Pa.—Thiel College students and faculty members joined presenters from the Carnegie Science Center’s Science on the Road exhibits as the College hosted students from Greenville-area elementary schools on April 9 as part of the recognition for Earth Day.

Events began at 9:30 a.m. and will continued until 1 p.m. and took place in the Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasium, the Haer Family Science and Arts Connector and the Thiel College Greenhouse. Students from Greenville, Reynolds and St. Michael’s elementary schools were on campus to learn about wildlife water rescue and tour the Thiel College greenhouse. Students also experienced the Carnegie Science Center’s traveling Earth balloon and planetarium displays.

A moss Earth activity was put on by the Thiel College Environmental Club. The students made birdfeeders and created Earth-friendly art.

The campus will also recognize Earth Day with a tree planting and dedication ceremony later this month.

In its 21st year, Thiel College’s Earth Day events are sponsored through Student Government Association funding, which was requested by both the environmental club and Tri-Beta biology honor society. The Eagle’s club also made a donation to the event.
