GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College’s Vira I. Heinz Scholarship for Women in Global Leadership recipient, Hannah Uschock ’22, hosted a presentation about her international experience to complete the community engagement experience requirement of the scholarship in the College’s Bly Hall auditorium on Tuesday, Nov. 16.
Uschock was joined by Carlow University senior Kayla Dell for a combined community engagement experience workshop. The two studied abroad virtually during the 2021 summer in South Africa and India, respectively.
Uschock, a 2018 graduate of Indiana (Pa.) Area High School, is a history major.
“The VIH program has given me the opportunity to work with people from across the world,” Uschock said. “While I was not able to go abroad due to the pandemic, studying abroad virtually was the next best thing.”
Typically, there are three recipients of the scholarship at each of the 14 member institutions every year. Female students must be sophomores or juniors that have never traveled outside of the U.S. while also meeting other basic requirements. Scholarship winners receive at least $5,000 to help pay for an international study abroad experience.
A reciprocal presentation will be held at 11:15 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 18 at Carlow University’s Galliot Center. Students, faculty, alumni and community members can attend the community engagement experience.
