GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Thiel College graduate Walter Holtgrefe ’22 was recently selected for a Health Professions Scholarship through the United States Army.
Recipients of the scholarship are commissioned as Second Lieutenants in the Army and given full tuition to a medical school of their choice, as well as a monthly stipend and accessions bonus. Upon completion of medical school, recipients are promoted to the rank of Captain and serve on active duty as officers providing medical care to soldiers and their families in the United States and abroad.
“I look forward to medical school and serving our country through medicine,” said Holtgrefe, who was a biology major. “I am grateful for the opportunities and my experiences at Thiel that will no doubt help me become a better physician and Army officer. I am thankful for the mentorship, advice, and support I received through the application process from not only the academic faculty but also some of the staff who served.”
Holtgrefe, a 2019 graduate of Erie McDowell High School, plans to attend the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. After medical school, he hopes to specialize in emergency medicine.
