GREENVILLE, Pa.-- The curtain rises on the Thiel Players’ spring musical production, “Little Shop of Horrors” March 29, 30 and 31 in the William A. Robinson Theater at Thiel College.
Written by Howard Ashman with music by Alan Menken, this classic, high-energy musical tells the story of Seymour, played by sophomore Casey Rose, a down-on-his-luck nerd who works in a florist shop on Skid Row, owned by Mr. Mushnik, played by junior Joey Hertzog. Seymour is secretly in love with his co-worker Audrey, played by sophomore Leah Kook, who is dating a sadistic dentist, played by freshman Jeffrey Koudelka. With the shop about to close down, Seymour stumbles onto a new breed of flytrap, which he dubs “Audrey II,” voiced by senior Hubert McCarthy. The shop rockets to fame, but no one knows the dark secret Seymour keeps about Audrey II.
The whole story is told by three narrating Skid Row urchins, Crystal, Chiffon and Ronnette, played by freshman Amy Boxer, junior Abigail Kusserow and senior Chanel Jenkins respectively. Throughout the show, the audience also meets other colorful inhabitants of Skid Row played by Seo Hyun Park, Brittany Patten, Sarah Jefferson, Timothy Hutton, Conor King, Kia Lewis-Polite, Sara Toombs, John Grondwalski, Kaile Jump, Kristen Yauger, Sohui Lee, Annie Camp and Sam Slaven.
Show times are 8 p.m., with a matinee at 2 p.m. on March 31. There is no admission fee to the production but reservations are required. The William A. Robinson Theater is located behind the William A. Passavant Memorial Center on Thiel’s campus. Donations will be accepted after the show to support future Thiel Players productions.
