Six earn valedictorian and salutatorian honors at Thiel College’s 138th Commencement Ceremony

GREENVILLE, Pa.-- Six of the 171 members of the Thiel College Class of 2012 earned valedictorian and salutatorian honors at the 138th Commencement Ceremony, which was held on May 6 at 2 p.m. in the College’s William A. Passavant Memorial Center.

Five students with perfect 4.0 grade point averages—Sarah Lynn Conte of Russellton, Pa., Brendan Joseph DuLaney of New Windsor, Md., Scott Kenneth Hunkus of Kinsman, Ohio, Jacquelyne Marie Kinney of Southview, Pa., and David Willis Owens of Polk, Pa.—earned valedictorian honors for 2012 and one student—Kristen Marie Moreland of Dover, Ohio —was named salutatorian.

Conte graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees and departmental honors in psychology and sociology. She also earned the Dean’s Key.

DuLaney graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees in accounting and business administration. He earned departmental honors and the Dean’s Key as well.

Hunkus graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics and a Bachelor of Science degree in actuarial studies. He earned the Dean’s Key and departmental honors.  

Kinney graduated summa cum laude and earned Associate of Arts degrees in business administration and management information systems, an Associate of Science degree in web development, a Bachelor of Science degree in e-commerce and a Bachelor of Arts degree in business communication. She received the Dean’s Key as well as departmental honors in communication.

Owens graduated summa cum laude with Bachelor of Arts degrees in psychology and sociology and received departmental honors. He also was awarded the Dean’s Key.

Moreland graduated summa cum laude with a 3.98 grade point average and earned Bachelor of Arts degree in accounting, business administration and fine art with departmental honors. She also is a recipient of the Dean’s Key.

Students who received the honor of summa cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.8 - 4.0; students who received the honor of magna cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.60-3.79; and students who received the honor of cum laude graduated with a GPA of 3.4-3.59. The Dean’s Key is awarded to those students who made the Dean's List during all eight semesters at Thiel.
