GREENVILLE, Pa.—New this summer, Thiel College, a leading liberal arts college in northwest Pennsylvania, has a variety of athletic and academic camps on campus.
Thiel College faculty members are holding a Connect with Electronics and an Adventures in Science academic camps for students from 13-18. Athletic camps include a novice wrestling camp for students in grades K-6 and an overnight volleyball camp for grades 9-12. Three separate sessions of a youth activity camps are scheduled. The electronics camp begins June 18, while Adventures in Science begins June 25. Each camp costs $110. Professor of Physics Eugene Torigoe, Ph.D., and Assistant Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Ron Anderson ’07 are leading the electronics camp. Assistant Professor of Biology Chris Fonner, Ph.D., is the camp director for Adventures in Science. Both camps are focused on hands-on activities and experiments.
Nine-time Presdents’ Athletic Conference champion coach Craig Thurber is leading the wrestling camp, while women’s volleyball coach Tyler North is camp director for the volleyball camp.
The activity camp is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Students in grades 6-9 will have a schedule full of activity periods and will also have one outing. The three sessions are July 9-13, July 16-20 and July 23-27. Each session costs $300 and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks.
The College also is expanding its role as a host site for camps and conferences. From June 11-15, the Community Foundation and the United Way STEAM Summer Camp is on campus.
More than 600 people are expected as The Evangelical Lutheran Church in American hosts the Northwest and Southwest Pennsylvania Synod Assembly at Thiel College from June 13-16. The East Palestine High School marching band will hold its camp at Thiel from July 16-21.
